I am a third year Sociology student at the University of Regina. My involvement with Oxfam first started with tabling for a couple of local events. My knowledge of Oxfam had grown more as the school year continued and I was able to speak more confidently about the Oxfam organization, our campus group, and also talk to those around me about what Oxfam does and believes in. From these experiences this has allowed me to become a member of the Oxfam Prairie Regional Steering Committee as Oxfam Regina representative. This has allowed me to take on more of a leadership role along and communicate with other Oxfam members from across Canada. My involvement has allowed me to learn more as a leader along with having the opportunity to speak with others in the community and the university community about social injustices and what we can do to change them.
My most rewarding experience as an Oxfam member has been is gaining more knowledge about social issues along with meeting like-minded peers who are passionate about making a difference and are willing to stand up for what we believe in.
Oxfam has allowed me to see that there is so much more that we can do to make a difference in our lives, along with the lives of others globally. As an individual I consider Oxfam’s principles and actions to be equally important on a global scale along with being relevant to events that are occurring every day. Being an Oxfam member Ihas helped me to increase my education and strengthened my leadership skills which will continue benefit me in the future.
