I have been interested in development issues for several years. I have been to Thailand and Vietnam to participate cooperative activities with local people in those countries.
I attended a volunteer introductory meeting at Oxfam Canada’s Toronto office, where the presenter was also a volunteer. I could tell she enjoys her activities with Oxfam, which enhanced my interests, and encouraged me to continue volunteering. I have helped at summer tabling events to attract the attention of the general public to ongoing development issues, particularly women’s rights and climate change. Oxfam volunteers are very impressive; they respect others, and enjoy each others knowledge and company.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of being an Oxfam volunteer is doing good, not only for people in developing nations, but also for people in Canada as they learn more about the issues people face in other parts of the world. I’ve learned that although volunteering can be challenging, with proper planning and giving regular feedback, volunteering is fun. Oxfam’s volunteer community has a very comfortable atmosphere where people enjoy their activities.
